Shoe Pick #11 – Nike

Brand: Nike
 Air Force 1 Foamposite
 Metallic Silver “Pewter”
Late 2012
Price: $330-340

The Air Force 1 silhouette isn’t really my cup of tea, usually. Just like the Air Max 90, I associate the AF1 with the less desirable sort. Furthermore, the “Nike Air” bubble in the heel has never been something that has appealed to me, it makes them look like they’re kiddie shoes if you ask me.

As with sneakers, it doesn’t take much to turn something from “meh”, to something highly desirable. In this case, a change in material and colourway has created an AF1 that looks boss!

I tend to go for a traditional look with my trainers; suede, mesh and a classic rubber sole. These AF1’s are a stark contrast, with a space age look about them, achieved by creating a hybrid with the hugely successful Nike Foamposite.

The Foamposite upper just looks awesome, it’s the kind of material you just want to touch, very “Back to the Future”. The outside ‘swoosh’ on each foot is a contrasting black colour, with the inside matching the rest of the silver upper. A translucent sole shows the air unit, and it is finished with blue accents in the tongue, heel and footbed branding. Nubuck material for the vamp completes the shoe, leaving a loooooooooovely finished product.

Unfortunately, the highly desirable materials make this shoe a very pricey one. I’ve only found them available in limited sizes at Marquee Sole, at around $330-340 dollars. None the less, they are fresh. Why can’t I be rich! 😥

About Tom McCluskey

My name is Tom, and this is my blog! I'm 19 years of age, and just beginning my 2nd year of a BSc/BA Product Design degree at Bournemouth University, UK. Otherwise, I live at home in Romford, London (not Essex!) during the summer period. Design is something I'm taking ever more seriously in life. Starting my degree, hoping to explore a field I had dabbled in with GCSE Graphics at school, design has gradually become something of an obsession. Shoe/Trainer/Sneaker design is something that particularly interests and inspires me, I'm quite the "sneakerhead", and I plan on using this blog to showcase my journey through university, and beyond. When it comes to extracurricular activities, I'm a big fan of sports, football and badminton in particular. West Ham United are my team, and you'd struggle to find a more passionate fan. Just ask my girlfriend, I was absolutely delirious when we won the play off's final against Blackpool earlier this year, COYI! Anyway, I hope you enjoy what I've got to showcase here in my blog, thanks for dropping by. Tom.
